In 2014, Larry Morey, one of the administrator’s of ABC Montessori, was arrested for taking a special needs child into a closet and beating him with a belt. Below are the photos that were taken of the child after the incident.
When the police were called, a note was provided to the officer that apparently was “signed” by Gentry’s mother and notarized by Julene Smith, giving Larry Morey permission to spank her child.
After Larry Morey was arrested, he was temporarily removed as administrator from the school and had to move off the property, as Kim and Larry were LIVING at the school. They quickly began to construct responses to abuse claims, and decided that attacking the mother and blaming her for giving them permission was the route to go. Even though they had a history of REQUESTING that parents come up to the school and remove their children to spank them – OR ELSE, they constructed the following TWO responses (notice the difference in them, where they completely LIE), one which they shared with their developer and the other was sent to their attorney.
In the midst of these letters, they also held a meeting with all the parents of the school, where Nyree Mereus spoke up when they claimed they had never used corporal punishment and called them a liar in front of everyone. She told them they had asked her to come spank her son or take him home. Several times. The email below is from a teacher employed at the school at the time, confirming her claims. This teacher left shortly after the incident. Names are redacted for privacy.
ABC continued to fight the charges in court, and the case went on for two years. During this time, Larry Morey was cleared to run for County Commissioner, and did, losing miserably. In Sep 2016, Larry Morey was completely acquitted of all child abuse charges by Judge McGarity. They had successfully demonized the mother, and provided a notarized letter they claimed she signed, giving them permission to spank him. They released this below statement immediately after.
Immediately after being acquitted, Larry set up the first interview he could with local television show host, Ray McBerry, to publicly share his side to the story. In this interview, he contradicts himself, while completely bashing the mother and justifying his actions. It’s a total circus and it’s almost unbelievable. He had run for county commissioner during the trial, and blamed the situation for losing the election.
